"Tackling industrial challenges with AVENCORE provides great learning opportunities."
Why have you decided to join Avencore?
To be honest, I was skeptical about consultancies in the beginning. I envisioned the stereotypical approach of major players who would engage with a company for a brief period of time, devise theoretical concepts and then disappear.
I got to know Avencore at the KIT Career Fair and they convinced me as a consultancy because they don't just develop concepts and present them to clients. We develop concepts together with our clients and support the implementation to increase their industrial competitiveness. In addition, tackling industrial challenges with Avencore provides great learning opportunities.
"The motto 'serious but fun' is definitely true."

In consulting you go through many different projects, get different insights and work on different tasks. Unlike in industry, you don't have the same tasks for the first few years, which can get monotonous and boring.
As a result, the learning curve in consulting is quite steep. This is supported by the generally very dynamic, ambitious and young working environment that you also have at Avencore.

What I really like is the variety, every day is different and you have new challenges every time. You often have to deal with new topics and develop a solution.
What is also special about Avencoreis the team. We are super cool people and get along really well.

This is very difficult to describe because every day and therefore every week looks really different.
For my first project, for example, we had a team meeting about the project on Monday morning, after which I prepared the appointments that we held at our customer's company on Tuesday and Wednesday. These appointments were, for example, updates, sessions to work out new topics or workshops in which we creatively tried to find optimization potentials. On Thursday and Friday, we were back in the (home) office and reworked the appointments. This means that the results are compiled and aggregrated, protocols are written for the appointments and sent out, in order to prepare for the next week.
Later on, you get more projects, so you have to coordinate even more.

Friendly, fun and very good. There is a really great relationship with the colleagues and it is fun to work with them. The motto "serious but fun" definitely applies, you can work well together in terms of content, but also have fun together. I think that's very important because you spend a lot of time together during the project, both professionally and privately.

We had a project with a satellite manufacturer and were given a production tour at the end of the project. Such satellites are manufactured in a clean room. That means before you go in there, you first have to go through a airlock and then put on protective clothing including a hair net and shoe covers. Then you come into a very large, super tidy room in the middle of which there are one or two satellites and everything revolves around them. It's hard to imagine, but it's very impressive. Things are assembled ultra slowly and very carefully. It's really special to see this big satellite and all the technology and cables in front of you.
My tips for students:
-
I studied industrial engineering in Karlsruhe. And sometimes during your studies you ask yourself: When will I ever need these things? But in the job, you realize that the details are not so important per se, but you have positioned yourself very broadly as an industrial engineer, because you learn more than you think during your studies. You also learn how to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics. That helps me a lot in consulting, because we also work on different things. One day you're more in purchasing, then in controlling, and then again more in engineering.

Definitely give it a try! Consulting offers tremendous learning opportunities, and it's truly fascinating. The field often presents dynamic challenges, so being adaptable and stress-resilient are valuable qualities to successfully navigate the demands of the profession.
Especially during the application process itself, I would ask as many questions as possible to find out about the company and its activities, as there are so many different consultancies and specializations.
Once you are at Avencore, you should dare to ask your questions, not only to your buddy, but also to everyone else.

Collaboration and communication skills: As a consultant, you should be a team player. This is very important because you will be working together on projects, but you will also spend a lot of time together in your personal life. You should therefore be communicative and not shy about relationships.
Time Management and Prioritization: If you have multiple projects or different tasks within a project, you should be able to manage your time well, work efficiently and set priorities.
Motivation, learning, and proactivity: You should be motivated to learn new things and have a desire to learn new things. Of course, we always have different projects, but certain parts are repeated so you can take what you learn back with you. You should also proactively take on tasks when you have the capacity.
Analysis and problem-solving skills: You need to be able to handle data, analyze it, and then use it to solve problems.
